Procter & Gamble (P&G) has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with EDP Renewables (EDPR) to source solar energy for its Italian operations. EDPR will supply P&G with solar energy from two projects in Italy’s Lazio region, with a combined capacity of 142 MW DC/109 MW AC. These facilities are set to commence commercial operations in 2023 and are expected to help prevent 52,000 tons of carbon emissions each year once they are operational.
EDPR stated that this deal signifies that it has now secured around 35% of its solar capacity target additions, accounting for roughly 44% of the approximately 17 GW established for the 2023-26 period.
P&G has previously partnered with EDPR when the latter company agreed in September 2021 to supply clean energy from a 127.5 MW capacity to P&G for 15 years, without specifying the source of power generation. The consumer goods company aims to achieve net-zero emissions status by 2040.
