Atlantis Foundries, one of Africa’s largest foundry operations, has entered into a Power Purchase Agreement with Energy Partners for the installation of a ground-mounted solar energy system. The system, comprising over 20,000 solar panels with a total capacity of 13.5MWp, will be the largest embedded generation solar project in the Western Cape.

EP will engineer, finance, construct, and operate the solar energy system, providing AF with a reliable and cost-effective electricity source over the next 20 years. The project is expected to save over 22,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, making it the highest reduction achieved in the South African automobile industry. With an estimated value of over R35 million per year, the system will significantly contribute to AF’s sustainability goals and reduce its carbon footprint.

The solar system, tailored to AF’s electrical consumption profile, will replace up to 20% of the company’s annual electricity consumption. Excess energy generated will be fed into the City of Cape Town’s grid, contributing to the overall renewable energy capacity of the city. This collaboration exemplifies AF’s commitment to global best practices and environmental stewardship, setting new standards in the South African automotive industry.
