DEWA’s Online Platforms Garner International Recognition for Sustainability Achievements

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) stands committed to advancing global sustainability objectives alongside its groundbreaking strides in clean and renewable energy initiatives. The organization’s dedication to sustainability extends through its operational framework, notably showcasing pioneering success in digital transformation and customer service excellence. Notably, DEWA has achieved an impressive digital adoption rate exceeding 99% on a global scale this year.

At the forefront of its commitment to eco-friendly practices, DEWA has cultivated a comprehensive ecosystem of ‘green’ digital channels, encompassing its website, smart app, and customer care center systems. These platforms operate exclusively through green data centers, relying entirely on clean energy sources. In a bid to further enhance environmental consciousness, DEWA is set to introduce a new feature enabling customers to utilize its digital channels with minimal carbon footprint, encouraging resource conservation and sustainability efforts.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized the organization’s dedication to enhancing sustainability across all operations. “In the Year of Sustainability in the UAE, we intensify our efforts to lead in digital transformation, strengthen our technological infrastructure, and deliver innovative services to drive efficiency and environmental protection,” he stated. Al Tayer reiterated DEWA’s vision to be a globally leading sustainable corporation committed to achieving Net-Zero by 2050.

DEWA’s digital transformation has yielded significant financial savings exceeding AED 2.8 billion for customers between 2017 and November 2023. Furthermore, it has contributed to the reduction of over 230,000 tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to planting more than 260,000 trees.

DEWA’s website and smart app are hosted at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s green data center, acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the largest solar-powered data center worldwide. This center serves as a groundbreaking model, integrating cutting-edge digital and power electronic technologies to create an advanced green ICT infrastructure powered by renewable energy sources.

As a Principal Pathway Partner of COP28, hosted at Expo City Dubai, DEWA played a pivotal role in highlighting the UAE’s strides in global climate action. The organization’s stand in the Green Zone showcased prominent projects, globally leading programs, and efforts in clean energy, digital transformation, green mobility, smart grids, innovation, and disruptive technologies.
