The total solar energy capacity in Türkiye surpassed 12,000 megawatts (MW) for the first time by the end of February, reaching 12,425 MW, according to a recent statement from the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
The share of renewable energy in electricity production exceeded 51% in the first two months of the year, highlighting the growing significance of solar and wind energy in reducing import dependency and achieving climate targets. Renewable energy sources accounted for 56.21% of Türkiye’s installed electricity capacity as of February.
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the government’s commitment to increasing the share of renewable energy to 55% by 2035, with a focus on expanding solar and wind energy capacity.
The aim is to achieve an annual increase of 5,000 MW in installed capacity until 2035, totalling 60,000 MW of new capacity over the next 12 years.
