In a significant move towards enhancing grid stability and integrating renewable energy, NTPC Limited has issued an invitation for bids for the development of standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a capacity of 250MW/500MWh at its Gadarwara and Solapur sites. This project is part of NTPC’s ongoing efforts to bolster its renewable energy infrastructure.

The scope of the work includes the supply, packing, forwarding, and transportation of containerized battery storage systems, battery inverters, and Energy Management Systems (EMS) to the project sites. Additionally, the selected contractor will be responsible for the design and engineering of the BESS, its integration with the grid, and related infrastructure. Comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M) along with the necessary warranties and insurance for the project lifecycle are also required.

The project will be financed through NTPC’s own resources or borrowings. Interested bidders are invited to submit their proposals online in a single-stage, two-envelope process, comprising a techno-commercial bid and a price bid. The bidding documents will be available for download from June 18 to July 2, 2024. A pre-bid conference is scheduled for July 3, 2024, with the deadline for bid submission set for July 18, 2024.

To qualify, bidders must meet specific technical and financial criteria. These include prior experience in manufacturing and supplying batteries for grid-interactive BESS of at least 40MW cumulative capacity, or being an integrator of similar systems. Financial requirements include an average annual turnover of at least INR 1650 million over the past three years and a net worth equal to or exceeding the paid-up share capital as of the last financial year.

This initiative underscores NTPC’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and improving grid reliability through innovative storage technologies. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the ETS portal for detailed information and updates on the bidding process.
