In a move to bolster the UAEโs sustainable energy goals, Yellow Door Energy (YDE) and Clyde Engineering have successfully launched a 1.2 megawatt-peak solar power system across the RITAJ residential community in Dubai Investments Park. The project is a significant step towards the UAEโs Net Zero by 2050 Target and 2050 Clean Energy Strategy, reflecting a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy.
The newly inaugurated solar power system, installed on the rooftops of nine residential buildings, features over 2,000 solar panels. These panels are projected to produce 1.9 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity within the first year of operation, meeting 30% of the energy consumption needs for the buildings. This is equivalent to a reduction of 756,000 kilograms in carbon emissions annually. The project, financed under a solar lease agreement, allows Al Mujama, the leading Owners Association managing the RITAJ community, to achieve significant cost savings without requiring capital investment.
Mohammed Bin Hammad, Senior Director of Jointly Owned Properties at the Dubai Land Department, commended the initiative. “The Dubai Land Department values the inauguration of this solar power plant, which aligns with our vision of fostering innovation in the real estate sector. This collaboration exemplifies how public and private partnerships can drive impactful change and contribute to the UAEโs sustainability goals,” he stated.
Obaid Salami, General Manager of Dubai Investment Real Estate, emphasized the importance of the project. “This initiative not only underscores our commitment to sustainability but also delivers considerable cost savings for RITAJ residents by reducing energy consumption. We are setting new standards for Jointly Owned Properties in the UAE and advancing a greener, more affordable living environment,” Salami remarked.
Al Mujamaโs General Manager, Mansoor Serkal, highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve energy efficiency across their communities. “We have already achieved over 18% savings on community energy costs, and with 30% of our energy needs at RITAJ now provided by solar power, we are proud to be leading the way in environmental stewardship,” Serkal said.
Jeremy Crane, Group CEO of Yellow Door Energy, celebrated the milestone, stating, “This solar lease is a significant step in advancing sustainability efforts in the UAE. We are proud to add this project to our growing portfolio and excited to continue empowering businesses to transition to clean energy.”
Philip Mills, CEO of Clyde Engineering, echoed these sentiments, adding, “This project not only improves the carbon footprint of the RITAJ Community but also offers financial benefits to the owners, with guaranteed solar production and no capital expenditure required.”
The inauguration of this solar power plant marks a critical milestone in the UAE’s journey toward sustainable development and energy efficiency in the real estate sector. By integrating technological innovation and environmental stewardship, this collaboration sets a new standard for incorporating renewable energy solutions into residential communities, paving the way for more sustainable projects in the future.
