The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a senior secured loan of PLN 414.2 million (approximately €97 million) for the construction and operation of an energy recovery facility (ERF) in Lodz, Poland. The project, led by Veolia Nowa Energia, a subsidiary of Veolia Environnement SA, will generate heat and electricity using refuse-derived and solid-recovered fuel.
This ERF is part of Veolia’s broader strategy to transition away from coal and reduce emissions by utilizing waste-to-energy technology. The facility will significantly contribute to the city’s green energy goals, providing efficient heat and power production while reducing environmental impact. The financing for the project will come from the EBRD alongside other financial institutions.
The initiative is a major milestone for Łódź, aiming to enhance sustainable energy production and reduce reliance on coal in Poland.
