The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has announced a new appointment on September 8, 2025. According to the order, Akash Tripathi, an IAS officer of the 1998 Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI). He was earlier serving as an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power.
The appointment has been made with the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, as per its earlier order dated August 25, 2025. The post of Managing Director, SECI, has been temporarily upgraded to the level of Additional Secretary to the Government of India, which will also determine his rank and pay scale.
This decision has been issued with the approval of the Minister of New and Renewable Energy. The official communication was made by the Under Secretary to the Government of India, Suman Kumar. The order has been addressed to Akash Tripathi in his new role as Managing Director of SECI, and copies have also been forwarded to the concerned offices for information.
With this appointment, SECI, which plays a central role in implementing India’s solar and renewable energy projects, is expected to strengthen its leadership under Tripathi’s direction. His background in the power sector and administrative experience is seen as an assets for advancing the country’s clean energy goals.
