Iberdrola España, the Spanish subsidiary of Iberdrola Group, has launched construction of its first photovoltaic projects in the Valencian Community. The two solar plants—Cofrentes I and Ayora 1—represent a combined investment of €252 million and will add 366 MW of renewable energy capacity to the region.

Located in the province of Valencia, the Cofrentes I (184 MW) and Ayora 1 (182 MW) solar facilities are expected to generate over 650,000 MWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power around 200,000 households. According to the company, the projects will help strengthen energy autonomy in the region while avoiding 52,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

Biodiversity Protection and Land Restoration Measures

Iberdrola has integrated multiple environmental and conservation initiatives into the project designs. The developments include dedicated biodiversity protection programmes, restoration of abandoned land surrounding the facilities, and agroforestry perimeter plantations to ensure the projects harmonise with the local landscape.

These efforts form part of the company’s Convive Programme, an ongoing initiative aimed at promoting the coexistence of renewable energy facilities with ecosystems and supporting socio-economic development in local communities.
