Iberdrola has reported steady growth across its energy distribution, generation capacity, and overall production in the first quarter of 2026, reflecting its long-term strategy of investing in electricity networks and clean energy technologies. The company supplied a total of 68,645 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity during this period, marking a 9.7% increase compared to the same quarter last year.

This rise in distributed energy was seen across several key markets. The United Kingdom recorded the most significant growth, with distributed energy increasing by 72.6% to reach 14,687 GWh. Spain remained one of the largest contributors with 23,462 GWh, followed by Brazil at 20,485 GWh and the United States at 10,012 GWh.

This global increase in electricity distribution is largely the result of Iberdrola’s continued focus on strengthening its transmission and distribution networks. These networks play an essential role in ensuring reliable energy supply, improving energy security, and supporting self-sufficiency.

At the same time, they help countries move toward electrification, which is becoming increasingly important for economic competitiveness and sustainability. In terms of generation capacity, Iberdrola reached a total installed capacity of 58,877 megawatts (MW) by the end of March 2026. This represents a 3.8% increase compared to the previous year.

The company added more than 2,100 MW of new capacity globally, with notable growth in several regions. The United States saw the largest increase with an addition of 693 MW, followed by Spain with 552 MW, Australia with 537 MW, and other European countries with 377 MW. The United Kingdom also contributed to this growth with an additional 192 MW.

Looking at the types of energy contributing to this expansion, renewable sources continue to play a major role. Offshore wind capacity increased by 16.2%, reaching 2,621 MW, while solar power capacity grew by 12.7% to 9,013 MW. One of the most significant changes was seen in energy storage, where battery capacity rose sharply by 157.6% to reach 683 MW, highlighting the company’s efforts to improve energy flexibility and reliability.

Electricity production also showed positive growth during the quarter. Iberdrola generated 36,106 GWh of electricity, which is a 2% increase compared to the previous year. This growth was mainly driven by higher production in the United Kingdom, which rose by 41%, along with increases in other European countries at 25% and Australia at 7%.

Among all energy sources, offshore wind power stood out with the highest growth in production, increasing by 42%. Overall, these results demonstrate how Iberdrola’s investment in modern energy infrastructure and renewable technologies is supporting both its global expansion and the broader transition toward a more secure, sustainable, and electrified energy system.
