Vikran Engineering Limited (VEL), an emerging multi-sector Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) company in India, has announced the commissioning of its second 5 MW solar power plant at Ambijalgaon in Ahilyanagar district, Maharashtra, under the PM KUSUM Scheme. This commissioning marks an important step in the company’s expanding renewable energy portfolio and reflects steady progress under its 600 MW solar contract secured in December 2025.
The newly operational solar plant has been developed with the objective of providing reliable daytime electricity for agricultural irrigation in the region. It aims to address long-standing challenges faced by farmers, particularly unstable grid supply and dependence on expensive diesel-powered irrigation systems. By ensuring consistent daytime power availability, the project is expected to significantly improve agricultural productivity and reduce operating costs for rural users.
The Ambijalgaon solar plant is projected to generate around 10,000 MWh of clean electricity annually. It is also expected to help avoid approximately 8,200 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, contributing to India’s broader decarbonisation efforts. In addition, the project will ensure reliable daytime power for irrigation pumps throughout the dry season and make productive use of underutilised land, creating long-term income opportunities for local landowners.
The commissioning of this plant reflects Vikran Engineering’s growing focus on renewable energy infrastructure as part of its long-term strategy to build future-ready solutions that support energy security, sustainability, and rural economic development simultaneously. The company is increasingly positioning itself beyond its traditional EPC operations to participate more actively in India’s clean energy transition.
Commenting on the development, Chairman and Managing Director Rakesh Markhedkar said that the commissioning of the second solar plant represents another key milestone in Vikran Engineering’s renewable energy journey. He highlighted that such projects go beyond clean power generation and directly contribute to improving farmer livelihoods, strengthening rural energy reliability, and supporting India’s sustainability objectives.
He also noted that the company remains focused on executing its solar pipeline with speed and precision as it scales its renewable energy footprint across the country.With this latest commissioning, Vikran Engineering now has two operational solar power plants under its broader development programme. An additional 145 MW of solar capacity is currently under active construction, with the overall project pipeline progressing as planned.
Despite operational challenges such as monsoon-related execution constraints and the complexity of coordinating across government bodies, land partners, contractors, and supply chains, the company’s steady progress reflects its strengthening capabilities in delivering large-scale renewable infrastructure projects.
Overall, the development underscores Vikran Engineering’s strategic diversification beyond its core transmission and distribution business into the rapidly growing renewable energy sector, marking its transition toward a more diversified infrastructure and clean energy-focused growth path.
