Dubai Electricity and Water Authority Commissions 10 Substations, Expands Dubai Power Grid with D 8.5 Billion Projects

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has commissioned eight 132kV substations and two 400kV substations in 2025 as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen Dubai’s electricity transmission infrastructure and support rising power demand across the emirate.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the projects align with Dubai’s long-term development vision and aim to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the electricity grid. He noted that DEWA currently has transmission network projects worth more than D 8.5 billion under construction, including 52 new 132kV substations, 223km of underground transmission cables, two 400kV substations, and 130km of 400kV overhead transmission lines, all targeted for completion by 2028.

According to Al Tayer, the total number of DEWA substations across Dubai reached 394 by the end of 2025, comprising 27 400kV substations and 367 132kV substations. He reiterated DEWA’s commitment to implementing global best practices in transmission network planning and execution.

Hussain Lootah stated that DEWA’s 2025 transmission projects also included the installation of 250km of underground cables and overhead transmission lines across areas including Warsan-4, Al Yalayis-5, Hatta, Saih Shuaib-3, Al Hebiah-5, and Jebel Ali First, with investments exceeding D 1.35 billion.

Lootah added that DEWA has also initiated five major 132kV transmission substation projects to support new Emirati housing developments in Latifa City, Al Awir First, and Al Khawaneej Second, with a combined investment of approximately D 560 million.
