Iberdrola Clientes, a subsidiary of Iberdrola España, has been awarded a one-year contract to supply Toledo City Council with 100% renewable electricity. The agreement will cover 328 municipal supply points and meet an annual electricity demand of approximately 11 GWh.The contract was awarded through a competitive tender process with an annual budget of €3.04 million.
Three companies submitted bids, and Iberdrola España achieved the highest overall evaluation score, securing the contract.Under the agreement, all electricity supplied to the city council will be certified through 100% renewable guarantees of origin. This ensures that the electricity consumed is matched by power generated from renewable energy sources, supporting Toledo’s efforts to reduce its environmental impact and advance a more sustainable energy model.
In addition to supplying renewable electricity, the contract is expected to provide the city council with greater certainty over its energy expenditure. Improved predictability in electricity costs will help the municipality manage its budget more effectively while also contributing to lower overall energy expenses across public facilities and services.
As part of the agreement, Iberdrola España will also provide a free advisory service aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the council’s existing electrical infrastructure. The service will identify opportunities to optimise energy consumption and enhance the performance of municipal installations, helping the city achieve further savings and sustainability benefits.
The contract reinforces Iberdrola España’s position as a major supplier of renewable electricity to public-sector organisations across Spain. It also demonstrates the company’s experience in managing large-scale energy contracts involving hundreds of supply points while supporting the wider electrification of services and the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy system.
The agreement represents another step in Toledo City Council’s efforts to increase the use of renewable energy in its operations, reduce carbon emissions, and align with broader sustainability and energy-transition goals.
