POWERGRID Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has secured a major transmission infrastructure project aimed at supporting upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia developments in Andhra Pradesh. The company announced that it has been declared the successful bidder under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process and received the Letter of Intent (LoI) on June 12, 2026.
The development was disclosed through a regulatory filing submitted under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015. The filing was made to the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE by Anjana Luthra, Company Secretary and Compliance Officer of POWERGRID.
The project, titled โTransmission System for Proposed Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia Projects in Kakinada Area (Phase-I),โ will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. The transmission system is intended to provide the necessary grid infrastructure for emerging green hydrogen and green ammonia facilities planned in the Kakinada region of Andhra Pradesh.
As part of the project scope, POWERGRID will establish a new 765/400 kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) along with a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) system. The company will also develop extensive 765 kV transmission line infrastructure to facilitate reliable power transmission and grid connectivity for the proposed industrial projects.
The project is expected to strengthen the transmission network in the region and support the integration of large-scale clean energy initiatives. Green hydrogen and green ammonia are emerging as key components of Indiaโs energy transition strategy, requiring robust transmission infrastructure to ensure a stable and efficient power supply.
POWERGRIDโs successful bid further reinforces its position as a leading transmission utility in the country. The company continues to play a crucial role in expanding and modernizing Indiaโs power grid while supporting the governmentโs renewable energy and decarbonization goals.
The regulatory filing regarding the project award was issued from the companyโs corporate office in Gurugram, Haryana.
