Shri K Shanmugha Sundaram Takes Charge as Director of NTPC

Effective December 1st, 2023, Shri K. Shanmugha Sundaram has taken on the pivotal position of Director (Projects) at NTPC Limited.

Sundaram, an Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate from Govt. College of Technology, Coimbatore (1988 batch), supplemented his education with a PGDM in Strategy & Finance from MDI Gurgaon. His previous role before assuming the Directorship was as the ED to CMD at NTPC Limited.

Bringing over 35 years of comprehensive experience to the table, Sundaram began his journey at NTPC Limited as a Graduate Engineer Trainee officer in 1988. His expertise spans diverse areas, encompassing project management, commissioning stages of various MW fleets (110, 210, 500, 660, and 800 MW), both greenfield and brownfield projects across multiple states in India. His experience further extends to operating and maintaining extensive power station fleets.

Noteworthy contributions in his career include instrumental involvement in India’s first supercritical power project at Sipat and significant roles at NTPC Darlipali Project. His tenure at NTPC Barauni (720 MW) saw successful project commissioning after its takeover from Bihar State Electricity Board. At Talcher Kaniha (3000 MW), Sundaram played a pivotal role in elevating station performance, resulting in the prestigious CII-ITC Sustainability award and the construction of FGD.

Recognized for his corporate and site expertise, Sundaram is known for his people-oriented approach and deep understanding of the power sector. His focus remains on expediting project implementation for efficient outcomes.
