A delegation representing Gasunie, a prominent European energy infrastructure company, recently concluded a visit to the Sultanate of Oman aimed at exploring opportunities for collaboration in the green hydrogen sector.
Gasunie, based in the Netherlands, manages extensive domestic gas pipeline networks spanning over 12,000 kilometers, along with approximately 3,100 kilometers of pipeline infrastructure in northern Germany. Transitioning from a gas transporter to a clean-energy infrastructure company, Gasunie is actively involved in the energy transition.
During their three-day visit to Oman, the Gasunie team engaged in discussions with officials from Omanโs Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Hydrom (the countryโs green hydrogen orchestrator), OQ Gas Networks (the state-owned gas transportation operator), and the Port of Duqm.
The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Oman stated that the delegation aimed to gain insights into Oman’s plans for green hydrogen production and explore potential collaborations to support infrastructure development and green energy production in the country.
This visit follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in November 2022 between Oman and the Netherlands during the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change for 2022 (COP27) in Egypt. The MoU focuses on strengthening cooperation in green energy initiatives, including identifying export and import checkpoints for green hydrogen, fuel sources, and raw materials.
Gasunie is actively involved in developing the Netherlandsโ hydrogen infrastructure and has been tasked by the government to build the National Hydrogen Network, connecting major industrial areas to Germany and Belgium.
In December, Oman and the Netherlands signed a Joint Study Agreement (JSA) to explore the development of the worldโs first commercial-scale liquid hydrogen corridor. The agreement involved Omanโs Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Hydrom, as well as the Port of Amsterdam, Zenith Energy Terminals, and GasLog from the Netherlands.
