Saudi Arabia Makes Strides In Global Energy Discourse At 26th World Energy Congress

From April 22 to 25, 2024, the 26th World Energy Congress convened in the Netherlands, drawing participation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s energy industry. This pivotal event delved into various energy-related themes, including transitions within the vital energy sector, with a focus on fostering just, equitable, and eco-friendly management of these transitions.

Saudi Arabia’s representation at the Congress underscored its influential role and substantial contributions to the energy sector. A select group of specialists and experts showcased the Kingdom’s national programs and initiatives, highlighting its commitment to driving global energy discussions forward.

At the exhibition accompanying the Congress, Saudi Arabia hosted its pavilion under the theme “Sustainable Energy – Shared Future.” This platform spotlighted the Kingdom’s efforts as a key energy hub and emphasized its dedicated endeavors to support global climate change mitigation initiatives.

Central to Saudi Arabia’s pavilion was its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, contingent upon the availability and maturity of requisite technologies. This ambitious goal aligns with the imperative of providing sustainable energy solutions while fostering collective action to safeguard the planet and its inhabitants.

Throughout the 26th WEC, Saudi Arabia actively engaged in discussions spanning a range of energy-related topics. These included the development of renewable and nuclear energy sectors, targets for energy efficiency by 2030, strategies for liquid fuel displacement, and the accelerated deployment of carbon emission reduction technologies such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) and low-carbon hydrogen production.

Looking ahead, Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Energy, is poised to host the 27th World Energy Congress from October 26 to 29, 2026, in Riyadh, the Kingdom’s capital.
