Cyprus will start installing solar panels at National Guard camps and other military facilities in September, aiming for completion by 2027, according to Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas.
Following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday in Nicosia, Palmas announced the approval of the proposal for collaboration between the Ministry of Defense and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC).
The project, estimated at 19 million euros and fully funded by European grants, involves installing photovoltaic systems in National Guard camps and warehouses.
“This initiative aligns with the government’s broader policy to advance clean energy, with the Ministry of Defense playing a key role in this ambitious plan,” Palmas stated.
The program, part of the “Thaleia” project, will commence in September with a deadline set for 2027, he confirmed.
