The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and Aspire, entities under the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), have signed their first research and development (R&D) agreement with Adnoc. This partnership aims to address key challenges in carbon storage monitoring and battery optimisation using advanced quantum technologies.
This agreement represents the first phase of a broader collaboration that will include joint projects in autonomous robotics, propulsion systems, and innovative technologies for renewable and sustainable energy.
Enhancing Carbon Capture Monitoring
Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is a critical component in reducing CO₂ emissions, yet monitoring these storage sites poses significant challenges. Leveraging TII’s quantum sensing expertise, the partnership seeks to enhance safety and prevent leaks by detecting environmental changes such as shifts in magnetic or electrical properties. These advancements will improve the long-term reliability and efficiency of CCS systems.
Optimising Battery Performance and Recycling
With batteries playing a central role in renewable energy systems, the project focuses on improving lifecycle management and recycling efficiency. By using quantum sensing to measure magnetic fields generated by batteries, researchers will develop models to predict battery lifespans. This non-invasive method will aid in sorting batteries for recycling, enhancing sustainability in energy storage solutions.
Expanding R&D Initiatives
The agreement also includes initiatives in unmanned robotics inspections and other robotic applications to tackle energy and technology sector challenges. The collaboration aims to combine the strengths of TII, Aspire, and Adnoc to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions.
