The International Solar Alliance (ISA) has launched its first Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre (GHIC) training workshop, marking a significant milestone in green hydrogen development. The five-day event, held from August 18 to 23, 2024, is part of a strategic collaboration with the Green Hydrogen Organisation (GH2) and Nile University.
The workshop, attended by officials from 14 countries, aimed to provide in-depth knowledge and skills related to green hydrogen technologies and policies. Key attendees included H.E. Eng. Sabah Mashaly, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt; Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Special Envoy for Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda; Dr. Wael Akl, President of Nile University; Lord Adair Turner, Chairman of the Energy Transitions Commission; and Mr. Jonas Moberg, CEO of GH2. ISA’s delegation was led by Mr. Ramesh Kumar Kuruppath, Chief of Unit for Programme & Projects Implementation.
The training covered a range of topics, including renewable energy technologies, green hydrogen production, policy frameworks, and financing mechanisms. The course aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of green hydrogen’s role in global energy transitions and equip them with the tools to develop effective policies and strategies.
Ramesh Kumar Kuruppath expressed satisfaction with the workshop’s turnout, highlighting the participation of 13 ISA member countries and the added insight from Mauritania. He praised the collaboration with GH2 and Nile University, noting their collective commitment to advancing green hydrogen technologies.
Participants, such as Kyeyune Noah from Uganda and Deeresh Bekaroo from Mauritius, shared their positive experiences and expressed gratitude for the knowledge gained, which they believe will significantly impact their national green hydrogen strategies.
The event underscores ISA’s dedication to advancing clean energy solutions, particularly in regions where renewable energy development is crucial. Nile University, a leading research institution in Egypt, provided the venue for the workshop, further cementing its role in fostering innovation and sustainability.
The Green Hydrogen Innovation Centre is poised to be a pivotal hub for green hydrogen development, promoting collaboration, technology transfer, and policy advancement in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future.
