ReNew Energy Global Plc has added around 2.4 GW of new renewable energy capacity in FY2026, increasing its total operating capacity to about 12.6 GW. This makes ReNew the second-largest renewable energy player in India. The updated figure reflects the commissioning of new projects as well as the sale of 600 MW of assets during the year ending March 31, 2026. The newly commissioned 2.4 GW includes 1.75 GW of solar power, 0.62 GW of wind power, and 25 MW/100 MWh of battery energy storage systems. The company has another 450 MW already fully built and expected to be commissioned soon. Overall, ReNewโs gross capacity as of March 31, 2026 stands at approximately 20 GW.
ReNew has been one of the leading companies driving Indiaโs renewable energy shift for more than fifteen years, with a strong presence in both utility-scale projects and the commercial and industrial (C&I) segment. The C&I portfolio, known as ReNew Green, consists of 2.5 GW of committed capacity, of which more than 2 GW is already operational. ReNew Green works with major global technology companies such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. In March 2026, the C&I business received a US$95 million equity investment from a group led by Leapfrog Investments, further strengthening its position.
ReNew is also becoming a major player in solar manufacturing. The company currently operates 6.5 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity and 2.5 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity, with an expansion of an additional 4 GW expected by December 2026. In FY2026, its solar manufacturing facilities produced more than 4.1 GW of modules and nearly 1.86 GW of cells. Earlier in the year, the solar manufacturing division received a US$100 million equity investment from British International Investments, demonstrating confidence in ReNewโs manufacturing capabilities and growth plans.
The company has a strong presence across India with more than 150 renewable energy sites and three operating solar manufacturing facilities spread across ten states. ReNew employs around 4,500 people. With its operating capacity of roughly 12.6 GW, ReNew generates enough clean electricity to meet the annual needs of about 24 million households. Its operations also help avoid around 23 million tonnes of COโ equivalent emissions each year.
Founder, Chairperson, and CEO Sumant Sinha described FY2026 as an important year for the company. He noted that commissioning 2.4 GW of renewable capacity in a single year is the highest ReNew has ever achieved. He highlighted that this accomplishment reflects the companyโs strong execution capabilities and Indiaโs growing clean energy opportunity, even amid global economic challenges and geopolitical uncertainty. Sinha added that rising electricity demand, the cost advantage of renewable energy, and supportive government policies create a strong long-term environment for continued growth in the sector.
