Vanda RE Pte Ltd, a joint venture majority-owned by Gurīn Energy, has been awarded a Conditional Licence by Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA). The licence, granted during the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum last week, acknowledges the technical and commercial feasibility of Vanda RE’s large-scale solar and battery project, while meeting the regulatory requirements of both Indonesia and Singapore. The company had previously received Conditional Approval from the EMA in 2023.
This milestone marks significant progress for Vanda RE, which recently entered into a major agreement with Trina Solar, a leading global solar panel manufacturer. The deal secures 1.2GW of advanced solar photovoltaic panels for the Vanda Solar & Battery Project.
Set to be one of the world’s largest solar and battery storage developments, the project will feature 2,000MW of solar PV capacity and 4,400MWh of battery storage. Scheduled to be operational by 2028, it will supply Singapore with 300MW of zero-emission electricity, sufficient to power 390,000 homes annually. The project forms part of a broader initiative between Indonesia and Singapore to establish a green electricity trading corridor.
Assaad Razzouk, CEO of Gurīn Energy, emphasized the importance of these achievements: “The Conditional Licence is a testament to the tremendous strides made by Vanda RE alongside our partners. With the framework supply agreement with Trina Solar and the licence approval from EMA, we are moving closer to delivering 100% renewable energy to Singapore by 2028.”
These developments reinforce Vanda RE’s commitment to driving sustainable energy projects that contribute to the region’s energy transition.
